Ten county employees get certified

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to announce the graduation of 10 employees from Florida’s Certified Public Manager program. The graduates are among hundreds of individuals statewide who completed the program:

  • Alex Johnson, Water Safety Deputy Chief, Pensacola Beach Lifeguards
  • Andrew Tutten, Network Coordinator, Information Technology
  • Brad Hattaway, Planning Coordinator, Emergency Management
  • Christy Buscaino, Deputy Chief, Emergency Communications
  • Clara Long, Director, Neighborhood and Human Services
  • Donna Brewton, Financial Manager, Corrections
  • Greg Campanella, Battalion Chief, Fire Rescue
  • Ivy Lett, Human Resources, Public Safety
  • Nick Gradia, Lieutenant, Fire Rescue
  • Shawn Hankins, Captain, Corrections

These new graduates have completed a rigorous two-year program, including 32 days of training, plus required projects and exams. Over 100 government agencies, including cities, counties, state and constitutional offices, have participated in the Florida CPM program.

“I am very proud of our county employees for completing the rigorous and nationally-recognized Certified Public Manager program,” said County Administrator Wes Moreno. “Escambia County prides itself on being leaders in the community, and completion of the CPM program enhances the professionalism and effectiveness of our local government.”

About the CPM Program

The Certified Public Manager® program is a nationally-recognized program for training and developing public managers and supervisors.­ It is currently offered in 38 states and by the federal government. ­The primary goals are to professionalize public management and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

Florida has one of the largest, and most successful, CPM Programs in the country, with nearly 5,500 graduates from more than 100 agencies. Florida’s CPM Program is administered by the Florida Center for Public Management, which is part of the Askew School of Public Administration at Florida State University.
