Seven new mid-block crosswalks will be activated on West Cervantes Street, between Dominquez and A Streets, the week of Monday, Oct. 17. The crossings are located between the following streets:
Dominguez and Green Streets
Grandview and Wentworth Streets
Y and Z Streets
P and Q Streets
M and N Streets
F and G Streets
C and D Streets
The mid-block crossings will allow pedestrians to safely cross Cervantes Street between intersections and include designated pedestrian islands in the median for safe refuge.
The mid-block crossings also feature multiple layers of crosswalk visibility. Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are used to alert drivers to the crosswalk and the need to yield to pedestrians.
The rapid flashing beacons are an improvement over traditional crosswalk warning lights in that they use high-intensity LEDs that are visible both night and day. Their amber color and quick flashing pattern improve their visibility versus oncoming headlights or glare from wet pavement.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
