Breaking: Georgia Blackmon passes

Pensacola civil rights leader and icon, Georgia Blackmon has passed away. In 1989, Georgia opened The Gathering Awareness and Book Center to offer African-American literature and history and be a gathering place for the community. The bookstore served as a distribution spot of Inweekly until it closed in 2018.

She also founded the Mother Wit Institute, a 501(c)3 that took on the restoration of the Ella Jordan House. Georgia made the Inweekly Power List several times.

The Council on Aging published an exclusive interview with Georgia in the fall of 2019. Read here.
