The newest American Lung Association “State of the Air” report shows that Florida cities’ air is cleaner in comparison to many metropolises in other states.
FloridaPolitics reports 10 Florida cities or regions that made the list of the cleanest cities Five made the cleanest U.S. cities list by short-term particle pollution, including our region.
The American Lung Association graded counties on their air quality based on available ozone data. Thirty-five Florida counties had that data, and nearly every one of those counties graded received an “A” for air quality—except Miami-Dade, Marion, Escambia, and Hillsborough. No Sunshine State county scored below a C.
Escambia County received a B for high ozone days – Santa Rosa got an A. For particle pollution, the Pensacola MSA – which includes both counties – received an A, tied for 1st cleanest metropolitan areas in the country for 24-hour particle pollution.

- Ranked 116 worst for high ozone days out of 228 metropolitan areas
- Ranked 46 worst for annual particle pollution out of 204 metropolitan areas
