Big case gets little mention locally

The trial of Sabra Thornton, former Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff and alleged mistress of former Sheriff Charlie Morris, continues today in at Blanchard Judicial Center. She faces six counts of grand theft for her involvement in former Sheriff Morris’ theft, fraud and money laundering scheme. Prosecutors allege Thornton accepted a salary for a job she didn’t do and used Morris to get expensive gifts and cash that he stole from taxpayers through employee bonus kickbacks.

Morris is serving a 71-month federal prison term for the crimes and is testifying against her. Read more.
