Bergosh concedes

Steve Stroberger has early lead by 54%:

This wasn’t the result I expected, nor is it the one I anticipated, but the District 1 voters have spoken and they have elected new leadership to take this district in a new direction. I will work with the new commissioner elect over the next several months to ensure a smooth transition in November. I’ll be taking tonight with my family and will have no more comment on this election this evening. I’ve already called and have spoken personally to Mr. Stroberger to congratulate him on his victory.

  1. People don’t understand just how important Jeff’s leadership has been, threading a needle towards getting some amazing things accomplished through some pretty difficult political landscapes.

Now the people of Beulah will get to find out whether a change of commissioner gets them what they want on OLF8. I still wish them the very best for their dreams for that property, regardless of who is commissioner, and don’t want them to be stuck with what we got jammed into Navy Point, for want of a commissioner who cared to help us. I do fear the Beulah folks–talking about the long time residents who have engaged on the ground, and not the social media disinformation team just out for blood–are going to find they were sold a bag of empty promises and somebody far less inclined to listen, compromise, and implement working and desirable solutions.

Hyper growth that was already in the works before he became commissioner aside played a huge part in this election result. But no other commissioner could come close to stacking up the list of big block accomplishments Bergosh got done in two terms. He has been one of the most effective commissioners in terms of inrastructure projects and community accomplishments that Escambia has ever seen. A big number of people in this community understand that his determination, focus, and ability through the last eight hectic years are leaving his district and the County as a whole far better than it would have been under anyone else’s tenure. He was a commissioner willing to work with advocates of all stripes towards common goals for the greater good. And for that, and for the really meaningful results it brought, our household will always be grateful to him.
