Gulf Winds Credit Union and its Foundation recently donated $20,000 to Pensacola Habitat for Humanity. Since 1981, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity has helped over 1,650 households achieve affordable homeownership. Gulf Winds has supported these efforts since 2016, donating a total of more than $67,000 and volunteering at yearly events like the Executive Build and Women Build.

  • “Gulf Winds supports Habitat because they aren’t just building houses, they’re building stable foundations for families,” said Daniel Souers, Gulf Winds Credit Union President and CEO. “We love everything Habitat stands for in the community and are proud to support their mission of helping families through affordable homeownership, a mission that aligns closely with ours.”

Women Build is a special fundraising campaign hosted by Pensacola Habitat for Humanity. It empowers women from all walks of life to join forces to raise money, forge bonds and physically construct homes for other women in their community. Each year, Women Build demonstrates how powerful it can be when local women come together to tackle the challenge of affordable housing.

The first Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Women Build took place in 2014, raising just over $50,000. Today, after a decade of growth, relationship building and fundraising, Women Build stands as the single largest fundraiser for Pensacola Habitat for Humanity – a testament to how fully the community has embraced Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s mission to create affordable homeownership opportunities.

  • Michele DuMond, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s Volunteer Services and Special Events Manager said, “Women Build is unique because most of the fundraising happens outside of our office by many women united by one goal. Our community truly comes together to make a real difference, and it’s incredibly inspiring to witness these incredible women get it done.”

Pensacola Habitat for Humanity’s annual 11th Women Build was a historic event, as this year’s fundraising efforts helped Women Build total over $1 million raised across the event’s 11-year history. Quinn Luehring-Buerkett shared Women Build’s aspirations in August on “Real News with Rick Outzen.”

At the Gulf Winds event, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity CEO Sam Young said, “We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from Gulf Winds Credit Union. Their generous donation has not only helped us exceed our Women Build fundraising goal but also demonstrates their commitment to uplifting our community.”
