Red Lights camera start filming in January

The City of Pensacola has installed red light cameras at city intersections and plans to have them fully operational by Wednesday, Jan. 1. Drivers will receive a one-month grace period with fines beginning Saturday, Feb. 1.

“What we want is our police going to do police work, not working at crashes,” Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said. “We want people to not be injured, and we want people to not be killed.”

At his weekly press conference, the mayor tried to dispel misinformation regarding the cameras.

“We will get into the myths out there – like do we shorten yellow lights – that aren’t true?” he said. “We want to make sure that you guys are, certainly as the media, reporting accurate information, and we’re not letting myths control what people actually think is happening.”

• 9th Avenue & Airport — north, south, east and west approaches
• 9th Avenue & Fairfield Drive — east and west approaches
• Davis Hwy & Fairfield Drive — east and west approaches
• 9th Avenue & Gregory Street — west approach

    “2. How will I know where the cameras are?
    New photo enforcement signs will be clearly visible at all red-light intersections being enforced by the cameras. These are scheduled to go up sometime this spring, with the program beginning in the summer. ”
