SAVE UWF has announced a strategic shift as the organization enters a transitional period following several key accomplishments. The grassroots movement successfully challenged the DeSantis Administration, resulting in the resignation of trustees Scott Yenor and Gates Garcia and the limitation of Adam Kissel’s term.
- With President Saunders’ resignation and an interim appointment expected, SAVE UWF will temporarily reduce its public communications while monitoring developments and allowing its dedicated volunteer team to recharge. The organization encourages community members to attend Board of Trustees meetings virtually or in person.
Despite this operational pause, SAVE UWF emphasizes its unwavering commitment to the university’s long-term well-being. The group plans to adapt its approach for what it now recognizes as an extended campaign to protect and strengthen the institution’s values and mission.
SAVE UWF MESSAGE
As we transition into the next phase:
Thank you again for the support, faith, and energy you have invested in SAVE UWF. We have accomplished a lot – two inappropriate trustees gone and another not confirmed, so he is limited in the amount of time he can linger on the UWF BOT. We also have seen a new trustee and heard his point of view. We know our voices were heard in Tallahassee, as so much of the current dialog responds to our concerns.
Right now, everything is in transition. As you know, Dr. Saunders has resigned. We have heard there is a person in mind to be appointed interim president. That allows the current BOT to avoid a public search for a replacement, at least for the time being. Because of the way the statutes are written, we know of no options for action by SAVE UWF on these issues currently. Please be assured, SAVE UWF is not going away or giving up!!
Since January, the team has worked tirelessly and put in very long hours. While we are in this period of transition, we are going to watch and wait to see what will happen next. And we are going to take a little time to recharge our batteries. We urge as many as can to monitor the board meetings (find dates and virtual links on the UWF website). The BOT meetings are open to the public, and you have every right to watch or attend in person if the meeting is here in Pensacola.
Probably, for a while, we will just have to be patient. During that time, you will see fewer social media and web posts and will receive fewer emails. SAVE UWF is looking for new ways to help the new version of our university. Please stay with us as we transition into a new phase of what now looks like a very long-term project.
Thank you again, and please stay connected. There is a lot more work to do to save our university.
