A New Mardi Gras Tradition Steps Off Tonight

Pensacola Mardi Gras is bringing authentic New Orleans energy to downtown with the inaugural Second Line Tuesday, debuting tonight outside Old Hickory Whiskey Bar on Palafox Street.

  • “We’re creating a tradition that brings people together every Tuesday throughout Mardi Gras season,” said Jade Hoy of Pensacola Mardi Gras. “This isn’t just an event—it’s a weekly invitation to experience the authentic spirit of second line culture right here on Palafox.”

How It Works

The procession begins gathering at 5 p.m. outside Old Hickory Whiskey Bar, with the New Orleans Ramblers brass band leading participants down the sidewalks of South Palafox around 5:30 p.m. The loop returns to the starting point, where the band continues playing for approximately 30 minutes as crowds naturally disperse to nearby restaurants and businesses. The total experience runs about 90 minutes.

  • Leading the inaugural march will be the Krewe of Daisy Dukes, the Krewe of Priscus, the Krewe of Cheers, and the Krewe of Blues, with additional Krewes joining throughout the season. All Krewe Royalty wearing their purple sashes will receive an exclusive 2026 Pensacola Mardi Gras Second Line Tuesday pin—available only during these weekly processions.

Supporting Downtown During Construction

These weekly celebrations carry special significance as they occur during the Reimagine Palafox construction project. By intentionally bringing Krewes, musicians, and spectators downtown every Tuesday, the Mardi Gras community is generating vital foot traffic and energy along Palafox Street’s sidewalks.

  • Second Line Tuesdays embrace a come-as-you-are philosophy. Participants can walk the whole route, join mid-procession, or simply step outside to watch and wave. There’s no pressure—only the opportunity to experience genuine Mardi Gras joy.

Participants are encouraged to bring ceremonial umbrellas and dress festively, while limited-edition PMG handkerchiefs will be distributed weekly by sponsors. Groups planning to attend together should call ahead to coordinate with restaurants and businesses.

Season-Long Schedule

Second Line Tuesdays continue every Tuesday through February 10, with starting locations announced each Monday on Pensacola Mardi Gras social media. Gathering and start times remain consistent weekly.

  • This inaugural event is sponsored by Premium Parking, with additional sponsors including Hanto + Clarke and Local Pulse. Limited sponsorship opportunities remain available; contact Jade Hoy at JadeH@PensacolaMardiGras.com.

Second Line Tuesdays are free, public, and built around togetherness and flexibility. Whether walking, dancing, watching, shopping, or simply smiling as the music passes by, everyone belongs in this growing Pensacola tradition.
