A Sustainable Gulf Coast

Every new product, process, and design has environmental impacts from beginning to end. Sustainable Gulf Coast’s July meeting explores those issues with Dr. Nye Grant, visiting assistant professor in the University of West Florida’s Building Construction Program. The presentation, “Life Cycle Assessment and Service Life Prediction: A Discussion on the Analysis of the Built Environment” will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 16, at the Bayview Senior Resource Center, 2000 E. Lloyd St., in Pensacola.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to evaluate the environmental impact of products, processes and designs over the course of an entire life cycle. For buildings, this includes the extraction of raw materials, transportation, construction, operation and maintenance, and end-of-life scenarios.

The discussion will provide an overview of various environmental indicators, including those associated with climate change, ecotoxicity and acidification.
