A Taste of the Bayou: WSRE PBS Wine & Food Classic returns with NOLA flair

John Besh

Get ready for an evening of Creole cuisine, zydeco rhythms, and Southern hospitality as WSRE PBS presents its annual Wine & Food Classic on Saturday, March 29, at Pensacola State College. This year’s event, “Ça C’est Bon,” promises to transport guests to the streets of New Orleans with a lineup of culinary talent and musical entertainment.

The main event, the Walkabout Tasting, runs from 7-10 p.m. in the WSRE Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. Local chefs will showcase their interpretations of Creole cuisine, while Grammy-nominated artist Corey Ledet Zydeco will add to the ambiance.

VIP PACKAGE

The VIP package includes the pre-party, Crescent City Soirée, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the college’s Morette Sky Terrace. The rooftop reception features a special cooking demonstration by acclaimed New Orleans chef John Besh, whose culinary empire includes nine restaurants – August, Domenica, Luke, Pizza Domenica, Shaya, Willa Jean, Eunice and Tavi. His flagship restaurant, August, is a Gayot Top 40 Restaurant and a Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Restaurant, in addition to being nominated in 2012 and 2013 for the James Beard Outstanding Restaurant Award and in 2014 for the Outstanding Service Award.

This year’s event is chaired by Louise and Dr. Brent Videau, who also chairs the WSRE-TV Foundation board of directors. Standard tickets for the Walkabout Tasting are available for $65, while VIP packages, which include access to both events, are $125.
