A&E: Favored Sons

“Favored Sons is playing tonight at Hopjacks. They took the time to answer questions via e-mail for the IN.

The band will be playing original songs from their album “Never the Whole Story,” along with an eclectic mix of covers.

“I like to go from playing ‘Pokerface’ by Lady GaGa to ‘No Diggity’ by Blackstreet,” said lead guitarist, Luke.

Favored Sons is comprised of Luke, Mitch on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Russ on drums and Harlan on bass. The band began in 2008 when Luke and Mitch met in college.

“I had been bouncing around in bands for a few years just as a guitar player,” said Mitch. “Around the time I met Luke I decided to start singing, mainly because I could never find a decent singer. We immediately started writing our own songs and searching for a sound we could call our own. With our new album that came out this past August, I finally feel we’ve created something original and special.”

Harlan is the newest son and a Pensacola native. He has been playing music since he was 15 years-old.
“Playing with Favored Sons is the most fun I have had as a musician,” Harlan said.

This will be the band’s third show at Hopjacks. They’re expecting a good time.

“The patrons of Hopjacks always give us a great response,” said Russ.

And because you can never really tell what the band will play or do next, the audience can expect a good time as well.

“We have a lot of fun on stage and at shows,” Mitch said. “Usually by our third set I’m walking around the bar and going outside with my microphone and acting as ridiculous as I can.”

“Bottom line, if the band is having a great time playing the music, then fans will have a great time listening to it,” added Russ.

Favored Sons will be playing from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Hopjacks 10 S. Palafox. So while you’re eating a late dinner of pizza and beer, be sure to throw some tip money.

I like when they throw money at us,” Harlan said. “Change hurts though.”
