Five Pensacola organizations have achieved something extraordinary. Out of more than 56,000 applicants nationwide, these local champions secured grants from The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants Program—a selection rate of less than 6%.
Who? When only 3,200 nonprofits nationwide make the cut from such a massive applicant pool, five Pensacola organizations—4EVR DEZ, Gulf Coast Kid’s House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Waterfront Mission, and Manna Food Pantry—rose to the top.
- What makes this recognition even more meaningful? These grants were made possible through nominations by local Starbucks locations—employees who work in our community and witness firsthand the impact these organizations have every day.
A Mission of Hope
Among the recipients, 4EVR DEZ stands out as an example of how personal tragedy can transform into community healing. Founded by Taxie Lambert in memory of her daughter Desirea, this organization empowers teenage girls to break cycles of domestic violence before they begin.
- “This recognition affirms that small, grass-roots nonprofits are making a big impact,” Lambert explains. “We’re grateful for Starbucks’ support in helping us reach more girls who deserve to grow up safe, strong, and supported.”
The other grant recipients demonstrate the diverse ways our nonprofits serve those who need it most. Gulf Coast Kid’s House provides support for children in crisis situations. Waterfront Mission addresses homelessness and poverty with compassion and dignity. Manna Food Pantry ensures that no family in our area goes hungry.
What This Recognition Really Means
The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants Program identifies and invests in organizations that align with Starbucks’ mission of connection and service. The fact that four Pensacola nonprofits made this list speaks volumes about the quality of community work happening right here.
- As Lambert puts it, “Pensacola has heart. This grant not only fuels our mission—it encourages us to keep showing up, keep speaking up, and keep believing that every girl deserves a chance to thrive.”
