Angel’s Garden Air Show Celebrates 16 Years

The 16th Annual Angel’s Garden New Beginnings Art Show will be held Sept. 16-18 in Cordova Square park located at 12th Avenue and Gonzalez Street across the street from the Old Sacred Heart Hospital. The show, which is free, will be open from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s hard to imagine we have been doing this for 16 years,” said Deborah Tracy, owner of Angel’s Garden and the shows organizer. “It’s a real quality show and all the proceeds go to Favor House, a center that assists women and children who have suffered from domestic violence.”

This year the show will feature 75 artists, from visual artists to musicians to those in the performance arts. Included will be displays of pottery, watercolor, jewelry, stained glass and more, all from local artists.

“Our goal has always been to give local artists a chance to display their work in a pleasant neighborhood environment,” Tracy said. “It creates a nice atmosphere. It’s definitely a joyful festival and people respond very positively. It’s very family friendly.”

There will be a children’s activity area at the Angel’s Garden show, as well as free music and dance performances.

A new element to this year’s show will be vendors selling items fashioned from re-purposed billboard vinyl. The vendors, Olive Road Baptist Church and Faith Works Network, will be selling designer tote bags and tarps made from vinyl donated by Lamar Outdoor. All proceeds from the traps and bags will go to local charities, including Charis House and the Faith Works Network’s work with the homeless.
