Anonymous reader protests anonymous source

I got this letter from a reader upset that we protected the name of the recovering heroin addict who helped with the story “Heroin Crisis Hits Home.”

The reader wrote (in case you can’t read the handwriting):

“Incredibly trashy paper
Trashy article on drug addict-Don’t feel sorry for anyone anonymous.
Trashy, Trashy,
garbage”

Note: The letter was unsigned. No return address on the envelope.

  1. This person is a very busy anonymous protester. We have a couple letters in this handwriting. Changing the world one scribbled rant at a time…or not.

  2. You have to love the irony here. The Anonymous complainer does not have the courage of their conviction for their deliberately hateful message. Coward. It makes sense an addict in recovery who is willing to openly discuss addiction and the struggle wishes to remain anonymous at this time in their fight to find lasting sobriety. In the source’s vulnerability, it costs nothing to offer a little grace.
