Another bad indicator for Escambia County

Last year the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce issued its Prosperity Pensacola report that had several indicators by which we could benchmark the community’s progress.

One indicator was Births to Teen Mothers. In 2004, 13.2% of all births in the county were to teenage mothers – among white 10.1%; among blacks 20.3% – 2004 were the latest figures available at the time.
Flpublichealth.com now reports that in 2005 births to teen mothers in Escambia County jumped almost a full percentage point to 14.1% – among whites 10.7%; among blacks 22.4%.
