Among the Pensacola Firefighters a rumor that has surfaced since the August primary has been that Charles Bare, who placed fourth in the mayor’s race, will be appointed the Pensacola fire chief if Mike Wiggins is elected mayor. Bare quickly endorsed Wiggins after his primary defeat.
In my conversations with Wiggins, I know that he is impressed with Bare and I wouldn’t be surprised if Bare was given a spot in a Wiggins administration. However, fire chief seems a stretch, despite the concerns of the firefighters —whose union has endorsed Ashton Hayward.
Wiggins told PNJ reporter Jamie Page that he hasn’t promised anyone a job and Bare is not going to be fire chief, if he’s elected.
