Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart today announced the state assessments in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, Civics and U.S. History for 2015-16 school year.
Statewide, results show that the percentage of students achieving on mathematics combined (Florida Standards Assessment and End-of-Course assessments) increased overall by one percentage point, with 58 percent of students in grades 3-5 and 56 percent of students in grades 6-8 scoring Level 3 or higher.
Results were up 5 percentage points for students younger than high school age taking Algebra with 88 percent scoring Level 3 or higher in 2016. In addition, the percentage of students scoring Level 3 or higher on the Algebra 2 end-of-course assessment increased by four percentage points while English Language Arts remained steady.
Student results were up 1 percentage point in Grade 8 Science combined (Statewide Science Assessment and Biology 1).
Escambia County’s scores remained below statewide results. However, FDOE touted a few accomplishments for the District:
* Improved five percentage points for students younger than high school age in Algebra 1, with 83 percent scoring Level 3 or higher.
* Increased two percentage points in Grades 9-10 English Language Arts.
Santa Rosa’s scores were above statewide results, but slightly less than last year in some areas
FDOE touted:
* Improved three percentage points in Algebra 2.
* Increased one percentage point for students younger than high school age in Algebra 1, with 96 percent scoring Level 3 or higher.
* Moved up one percentage point in both Biology 1 and U.S. History.
