Pensacola residents have an opportunity to shape the future of the city’s cultural landscape. The City of Pensacola invites the public to attend the first Artist in Residence program listening session on Monday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. This interactive forum will gather creative ideas to support the local artist community and guide the vision for this exciting new initiative.

The session will be held in the Hagler-Mason Conference Room at 222 W. Main St. and will feature introductions, a presentation on artist residencies, and an open audience discussion. All residents, business owners, and artists are encouraged to attend and contribute their perspectives on how this program can enhance community connections and cultural celebration.

The city has partnered with Daniela de Castro Studio. As a large-scale conceptual artist and local business owner, de Castro (a 2021 Inweekly Rising Star) brings valuable artistry, experience, and dedication to Pensacola’s creative community. Her expertise will help create a robust framework for artists and the broader community.

Resources and Opportunities for Selected Artists

Once established, the Artist in Residence program will provide selected artists with dedicated space, resources, and community engagement opportunities. These essential components will enable artists to create and showcase their work while fostering artistic innovation throughout the city.

The initiative has multiple aims: connecting artists with Pensacola’s diverse communities and institutions, highlighting the city as a premier destination for creative expression, and strengthening Pensacola’s unique cultural fabric.

This new program directly contributes to two key goals outlined in Pensacola’s first citywide strategic plan, “Strive to Thrive – Pensacola 2035”:

Creating public spaces that connect communities
Developing neighborhoods that celebrate culture and honor legacy

These priorities are part of the city’s broader ten-year vision, which will guide both current and future administrations in enhancing quality of life for all residents.

Looking Ahead: The Pensacola Artist in Residence program is scheduled to launch later this year. Complete details on the application process, selection criteria, and residency opportunities will be announced by late 2025. This public listening session represents the first step in creating a program that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of Pensacola’s vibrant creative community.
