Neglected to Death: Miami Herald looks at assisted living facilities and found that safeguards once hailed as the nation’s best have been ignored in a spate of tragedies never before revealed to the public.
The Miami Herald found that the Agency for Health Care Administration, which oversees the state’s 2,850 assisted-living facilities, has failed to monitor shoddy operators, investigate dangerous practices or shut down the worst offenders. The former head of AHCA was Holly Benson, Pensacola native who ran for Attorney General in 2010.
