Awareness Walk Organizer Apologizes for Traffic Problem

heartx300
Last Wednesday, the 5 pm traffic on Pensacola Bay Bridge was slowed by a volunteers walking for sexual assault awareness. The organizer sent this email last Thursday to Commissioner Grover Robinson:

To: Commissioner Grover C. Robinson, IV

Dear Commissioner Robinson:

First of all, on behalf of the Lauren’s Kids Foundation and all of the individuals from throughout your community that have participated in our efforts to provide programs and information in the fight to prevent childhood sexual abuse, we thank you.

As you know, Lauren and her Foundation, Lauren’s Kids, has now walked the State of Florida, in her 1,500 mile “Walk in My Shoes” walk, five times during National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Childhood Abuse Awareness Month which occur in April each year. The walk is largely about raising awareness, and providing education to prevent childhood sexual abuse while also empowering victims to become thriving survivors as Lauren has.

Unfortunately, during the Pensacola leg of the walk yesterday, due to a lot of early enthusiasm in the day, the walkers got a late start on a leg of the walk which had the unfortunate result of tying up traffic during rush hour. Many of the individuals who participate are very passionate about the issue of protecting children from sexual abuse which is what caused the late start. We apologize to any of the individuals in Pensacola and Escambia County that may have been inconvenienced by the late start of the Walk. We are deeply apologetic. When it comes to protecting children and families from sexual predators and offenders, we simply try to get our message out with a high level of passion.

Never would we, in any way, shape or form, want to alienate or inconvenience the public. It is our goal to enlist people in our fight and not alienate them.

Please know how deeply appreciative we are of the support our efforts have had in Escambia County. We will make certain that going forward, we avoid any potential for a repeat of what occurred at the bridge yesterday. Our warmest to everybody in Pensacola and Escambia County on behalf of the Lauren’s Kids Foundation.

Sincerely,

Ronald L. Book
