Bama helps Ole Miss into SEC soccer championship tournament

Escambia County hosts the SEC Soccer Championship at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex from Oct. 30-Nov. 6. During the week-long event, the top 10 women’s soccer teams will compete for the championship title. Tickets can be purchased here.

Alabama (17-1-1) won the regular season title earlier this week by defeating Florida, earning the top seed. Head Coach Wes Hart missed our interview scheduled on WCOA, but we did talk over the phone on my drive to downtown Pensacola. He had gotten caught up on a call with Ole Miss Head Coach Sian Hudson, who thanked Hart for helping the Lady Rebels earn the last spot in the 10-team tournament.

Ole Miss (9-6-3) lost its final regular season game to LSU (9-3-6) on Thursday and needed Alabama to beat Auburn, which they did 1-0.

The Lady Rebels face Lady Tigers in the tournament’s opening game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30. The second game pits #8 Miss State (10-4-4) against #9 Texas A&M (9-5-5).

Eight different SEC teams have advanced to the Round of 16 since 2013 and the league has placed teams in the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the last eight seasons.
