Bay Co. sheriff wants to run jail

According to News Herald, Sheriff Frank McKeithen wants to run Bay County’s jail. The Bay County Commission will meet June 17 and is expected to vote on McKeithen’s proposal to run the jail, taking over the job from the private Corrections Corporation of America, or CCA.

I wonder if our commissioners should go in the other direction and do an RFP on running the Escambia County Jail. The budget is huge. The facility is overcrowded. There have been several deaths under the current administration.
