Bed Tax down 5 percent YTD, but 29-46 percent June, July

Through August 2010, tourist development tax collections (also known as bed taxes) are down only 5 percent, according to the Clerk of Courts/Comptroller Ernie Lee Magaha.

However, June and July were terrible for Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key:

Pensacola Beach
June 2009 (paid July): $360,646 2010: $255,796 Down: $104,850, 29%
July 2009 (paid August): $459,706 2010: $265,157 Down:$194,549. 42%

Perdido Key
June 2009 (paid July): $185,931 2010: $121,842 Down: $64,089, 34%
July 2009 (paid August): $223,365 2010: $119,940 Down: $103,425, 46%

By my estimates, Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key lost about $12 million in hotel, condo and vacation home rentals for June and July.
