Last week, the Pensacola News Journal announced it was “listed as the 13th fastest growing US Daily Newspaper in America and the #1 fastest growing US Daily Newspaper in Gannett according to analysis by the Audience Bureau of Circulations FAS-FAX data published in the July edition of Editor & Publisher.”
A review of the Audit Bureau of Circulation reports shows that indeed our daily newspaper has been able to reverse a steep decline in its paid circulation since Sept. 30, 2007. Much of that decline has been offset by the 54.8 percent rise in online readership.
Here are the numbers
Combined average total paid circulation
9/30/07: 56,360
3/31/08: 57,089
9/30/08: 52,289
3/31/09: 51,268
9/30/09: 43,762
3/31/10: 44,776
Decline in paid circulation since 9/30/07: 20.5%
Online Readers, past 30 Days
9/30/07: 84,443
3/31/08: 91,953
9/30/08: 109,642
3/31/09: 115,811
9/30/09: 125,209
3/31/10: 130,693
Increase in online readers since 9/30/07: 54.8%
An interesting point is the online readership appears to have slowed over the last reporting period from 8% to 4.5%….which could be a sign of fewer bikini contests in the winter months.
