“They put the dredge spoils along the coastline there, and it gets in front of people’s houses. It’s messy, it’s sloppy,” he said. “There was a project on the book seven years ago, and the commissioner of that area killed it at that time. I’m bringing it back. I think it’s a great project. We’re going to take the dredge spoils, and we’re going to put all that dredge sand where there are three small islands just off the coast near the Sunset Grill and Marina, creating a massive island, that will allow for boaters – up to a hundred boats on the weekend – to pull up and use it.”
He continued, “And then when the storms come, we will shoot that stuff through a conveyor system onto the shore and use it to renourish our beaches. It’s a fantastic project. The Corps of Engineers is excited; DEP is excited. We’re going to put $200 grand into it to get it going. It’s going to be a great amenity for boaters in that area. But more importantly, it’ll save us about 90% on our costs for renourishing the beaches. It’ll eliminate the wear and tear on the road.”
The commissioner plans to bring the plan as a full agenda item in the coming weeks.
Bergosh also discussed:
* American Magic – “I think it’s an enormous win;”
* Beulah Master Plan Meeting – “The flavor that I got back from the residents that actually attended was they weren’t necessarily satisfied with what they saw. They want to see more tools within the master plan, which would perhaps allow for growth that’s more intelligently planned.”
* Probable cause finding in Jonathan Owens’ ethics case – “We believe this is a felony because this file has 1600 color pictures of complete passports, photographs of credit cards, photographs of the complete information on a driver’s license, social security cards, all these other things.”
