Billings update: Four face death penalty

Alleged leader Patrick Gonzalez Jr, Donnie Ray Stallworth, Wayne Thomas Coldiron and Frederick Lee Thornton Jr. face the death penalty in the murders of Byrd and Melanie Billings. All four entered the Billings house on the evening of July 9. Suspects have fingered Gonzalez as the one who shot and killed the Billings couple.

The four have pleaded not guilty to first degree murder. Three others who have also been charged with first degree murder – Leonard Gonzalez Sr., Gary Sumner and Rakeem Florence (a minor)- but state attorney will not seek the death penalty against them. Lenny Gonzalez (father of Patrick) and Sumner allegedly drove the getaway vehicles.
