Biomass Bonds

The Escambia County Commission will consider this week issuing bonds for approximately $53 million to be used for the construction of a wood biomass pellet manufacturing facility in Century.

A Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA) public hearing will be held during the commission’s regular meeting Thursday. The board will be considering the issuance of industrial development revenue bonds on the behalf of North Florida Biomass Fuels, LLC.

The limited liability company has requested the county issue the bonds to finance the design, construction and equipping of a solid waste disposal and wood biomass pellet manufacturing facility within the territorial limits of the county.

According to county staff, the bond issuance will not cost Escambia.

“The bonds will not obligate the credit of the county or pose any obligation or liability for the county,” states background material in this week’s agenda packet.

The county commission meets Thursday morning for an agenda review session, with its regular meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the the Magaha Government Building.
