Bits and pieces

We heard yesterday that the negotiations between new Superintendent of Schools Malcolm Thomas and the teachers union have broken off. Union wants a larger pay increase than Thomas can give, especially with projected cuts coming from Tallahassee.

Also there are rumblings among the Escambia County firefighters over two District 5 fire stations getting three new vehicles. Earlier the BOCC had approved all the stations only getting two new vehicles – one for chief and the other for the assistant chief. The rumor is Comm. Kevin White insisted on the extra vehicles.
