On July 17, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2026 (H.R. 4016), authorizing more than $851 billion in military spending for the upcoming fiscal year. The legislation now advances to the Senate for consideration.
- A key victory for Congressman Jimmy Patronis involves funding for infrastructure improvements at NAS Pensacola, specifically restoration of the Blue Angels hangar. We funded a well-deserved pay boost to our heroes stationed at Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, NAS Pensacola, and NAS Whiting Field,” Patronis said in a press release. “I also requested $12 million for a hangar at NAS Pensacola, which would help preserve Blue Angels fighter jets being housed there.”
Background: The Blue Angels’ hangar at NAS Pensacola suffered significant damage during Hurricane Sally in 2020 and has been further impacted by subsequent storms. Hurricane Sally caused damage to over 400 out of 500 total buildings at NAS Pensacola, not just the Blue Angels’ hangar. Restoration projects include addressing roof losses, water damage, and mold remediation in many structures, which has led to lengthy repair timelines.
- Last April, Congressman Matt Gaetz, Patronis’ predecessor, said he had helped secure $20 million for the hangar repairs.
Since 2020, there have been concerns that the Blue Angels might relocate to Texas or California. Patronis introduced an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill that would prevent any federal funds from being used for efforts to relocate the Blue Angels flight team out of NAS Pensacola. The amendment passed a House floor vote and was incorporated into the bill.
“While there is no known risk of them leaving the Pensacola area, I wanted to take the extra step to make sure the Blue Angels remain here forever,” said Patronis. “The Blue Angels are awesome, creating economic opportunities and fostering a sense of pride throughout the community. I look forward to joining all the families in Northwest Florida to enjoy the airshow this weekend and see America’s best in action.
