As Opening Day approaches for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the team has to jobs fairs this week to hire over 100 associates for the upcoming season. The first is today at Greater Little Rock Baptist Church gym (901 North A St) from 4:30-8 p.m. The second is Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 4:30pm to 8:00pm at Pensacola’s Bayfront Stadium, Blue Wahoos executives and staff will be on hand to interview and screen applicants for the available jobs, which include positions as Ushers, Ticket Takers, Security, Box Office, Cleaning Crew, Food Service, Retail Clerks and Bat Boys.

During the course of the 2012 season, approximately 400 people were interviewed, selected, trained and worked through the very successful Inaugural Season, and now the Blue Wahoos are looking to repeat that success. Blue Wahoos Executive Dick Baker said that fan surveys gave high marks to the friendly, customer service at the stadium.

“While we always want to win the game on the field, as an organization we define winning as a happy, satisfied fan who had a great time and who wants to come back again,” said Baker. “So we’re looking for service-oriented, friendly, hard-working team members who can help us win off the field by keeping our fans happy.”

The Blue Wahoos job interview process includes an initial screening at the job fair, followed by two more interviews for candidates who are selected to move further in the process. Job applicants should be available for training beginning in mid-March, and should expect work hours to beginning prior to game time and extend for a few hours after the game is over, depending on the position.

Baker welcomed people of all ages and abilities to the job fair. “If you’ve ever been to a Blue Wahoos game, you will know that we want our associates to look like the community. So we have twenty-somethings and teenagers working alongside retired veterans and off-duty school teachers, with everything in-between, so if you’re interested in being a part of the Blue Wahoo service team, come out and see us Tuesday night,” Baker continued.

Job applicants are advised to fill out the initial application at the Blue Wahoo’s website and bring the completed form to the job fair. Extra applications will be available for individuals unable to fill out the form prior to Tuesday. Applicants should be prepared to provide their current and previous employers, including the name of the employer, dates of employment, supervisor name, and a contact number.
