Pensacola Blue Wahoos catcher Paul McIntosh has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies organization as part of a deal that included Marlin’s left-handed starter Jesus Luzardo in exchange for shortstop Starlyn Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd. MLB Pipeline lists Caba as Philadelphia’s No. 4 prospect and Boyd as No. 23.
Former West Virginia University catcher Paul McIntosh made his mark with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. During the 2023 season with the Blue Wahoos, Miami’s Double-A affiliate, McIntosh was a consistent presence in the lineup, appearing in 117 games. He showed solid power at the plate, belting 12 home runs while driving in 55 runs and maintaining a .246 batting average.
- McIntosh was named Pensacola Blue Wahoos Player of the Month for the month of July, the same month he set the club’s all-time home runs record.
Following the deal, McIntosh was assigned to Philadelphia’s Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, marking a promotion from his Double-A role with the Blue Wahoos. He joined the Marlins organization as an undrafted free agent in 2021 after completing his collegiate career at West Virginia University (2019-21). His time in Pensacola represents a significant portion of his 308 total minor league games played.
