Marketwatch reports Carl-Henric Svanberg, chairman of BP PLC, said today the oil giant was counting on getting permission to restart oil production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, but couldn’t confirm when such approval might be granted.
“Its difficult to speculate on but I think it isn’t far away,” Svanberg told reporters at an International Association for Energy Economics conference in Stockholm. He said the U.S. is dependant on oil from the region following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill last year and is determined to open up the area again.
“We are confident that we aren’t treated differently there,” Svanberg said.
