Breakdown of School District costs for records

What is now called “Public Records Request #97” – documents regarding the internal investigations into Warrington Middle School- will cost the IN $374.40 because of the cost of redacting the volume of information, according to the breakdown sent our attorney.

Remember we had originally asked for the investigator’s report on his investigation of the school operations but was told the only report or findings on any investigation of the troubled middle school was the financial audit given the school board. We therefore had to expand the request to include more than the report, which apparently led to “two stacks of documents, each of which is close to three inches high, for a total of 5-6 inches of documents.”

My attorney had asked for the IN to be notified if the cost were going to be more than $100. We were never notified so the School District kept running up the costs. Had we known the bill was going to be nearly $400, we might have been able to narrow the information request.

The documents weren’t just redacted by reviewed by three supervisors before they were allowed to be released – Administrative Coordinator, Senior Auditor and Director of Internal Auditing. Here is the complete breakdown – any time beyond the first 15 minutes the paper was charged:

Administrative Coordinator: 3 hours=$43.70
Senior Auditor-Internal Auditing: 45 min.=$13.60
Director, Internal Auditing: 2.5 hours=$76.30

Supervision costs: 6.25 hours: $133.60

Redaction:
Office Administration Specialist: 9 hours: $240.80

Total costs: $374.40
