Breaking: 3M board considering $5.5B settlement for earplug cases

Several national media outlets are reporting that the board of directors of 3M are considering accepting a $5.5 billion settlement of the nearly 260,000 lawsuits filed by U.S. military and veterans that allegedly have suffered hearing damage due to the company’s earplugs.

Several of the bellwether trials have been won in federal court in Pensacola. The average verdict when the plaintiffs won has been more than $20 million. Levin Papantonio Rafferty and Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz have tried many of the cases.

Locally, attorneys are being mum. We will hope to have something more to report later in the week.
