Restore Our Nation PAC is sending out texts from Gov. Ron DeSantis asking voters to contact Pensacola lawmaker Alex Andrade:
“Tell them (sic) to stand with the people and me to keep Florida free.”
Possible translation: Free meaning keep me out of jail.
Background: Andrade has led the investigation into how $10 million from a Medicaid settlement ended up in the hands of political committees fighting Amendment 3.
A draft settlement agreement obtained by the Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald reveals that the $10 million DeSantis’ administration directed to the First Lady’s Hope Florida Foundation last year originated from Medicaid funds owed to taxpayers. This directly contradicts official assertions that it was merely an additional charitable contribution from Centene.
The document shows Florida’s largest Medicaid contractor, Centene, agreed to pay precisely $67,048,611 to settle claims of overbilling taxpayers for medications, the exact amount finalized last year. However, instead of returning the full sum to state and federal coffers as required for Medicaid recoveries, $10 million was diverted to the foundation.
Pensacola State College Speech
When he visited Pensacola State College to defend his wife’s Hope Florida initiative, Gov. DeSantis wanted the audience to see challegnges to his policies and programs as attacks on them. “They didn’t have that super majority until I came along. And yet they are weaponizing that to try to attack us, our administration.”
He added:
“Make no mistake. When they’re attacking me, they’re attacking you because all I’m doing is standing up for what I told you I would do when you elected me.”
The governor described the Florida House of Representatives as “rotten.”
“They are behaving more like Democrats,” DeSantis said. “They are polluting with the left. They’re colluding with the media to try to sabotage all the great success that Florida has had over these last six years.”
He further singled out the House GOP leadership: “They’re not cutting your property taxes, they’re not fixing the condo crisis, they’re not doing the things that voters want ’em to do. Make no mistake about that. They are stabbing you in the back. They are refusing to do their jobs, and they are trying to manufacture smears to support their political agenda.”
Love the “possible translation”!
