Breaking: Matt Gaetz withdraws from AG job

The New York Times reports the former Panhandle Congressman Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration to be President-elect Donald Trump’s Attorney General. He said his candidacy was an unfair distraction to the transition.

Gaetz posted on X this morning:

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmationcoming a distrac was unfairly betion to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle. Thus, I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1. I remain fully committed to seeing that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice, and I’m certain he will Save America.”

  1. Now that Matt has imploded, we need to seek answers and accountability.
    1) Will the State Attorney or other appropriate Florida law enforcement investigate Matt Gaetz for alleged statutory rape and other offenses?
    2) Why was the Pensacola political establishment silent about Matt’s alleged misconduct? 3) Why did our local political class never express misgivings about Matt’s conduct in Congress and its consequences for northwest Florida?
    4) How do the candidates seeking to replace Matt plan to restore trust and credibility to Florida’s First Congressional District?
    5) Finally, were any local political figures involved with or present during any of Matt’s alleged misconduct?
