House Speaker Will Weatherford and Senate President Don Gaetz said this morning the Legislature does not plan to appeal a judge’s ruling that struck down the state’s congressional map drawn in 2012. Leon County Circuit Judge Terry Lewis last week issued the ruling based on the anti-gerrymandering Fair Districts constitutional amendments. Lewis found fault with districts held by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and U.S. Rep. Dan Webster. Weatherford and Gaetz said lawmakers will redraw the districts but want the changes to take effect with the 2016 elections, not the upcoming 2014 elections.
