The Senate and House failed to agree Friday morning on a congressional redistricting plan, increasing the likelihood they will not finish a special legislative session by a noon deadline. Senate Reapportionment Chairman Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, and House Redistricting Chairman Jose Oliva, R-Miami Lakes, met in public after a Senate floor session.

“It certainly sounds like we are no closer than we were yesterday,” Oliva said during the meeting. Galvano, in part, requested creation of a House-Senate conference committee to resolve the differences. But when it was apparent the two sides remained at odds, he got up and abruptly left the meeting.

The News Service will have a full report later Friday.
