Trying to succeed outgoing Sen. Greg Evers in a Northwest Florida Senate district, State Rep. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, raised more than $50,000 in April for his campaign account, according to a newly filed finance report. Broxson brought in $50,360 during the month and had $145,210 in cash on hand as of April 30.
Broxson and Rep. Mike Hill, R-Pensacola Beach, are running in Senate District 1, which includes Escambia, Santa Rosa and part of Okaloosa counties. Evers is running for Congress, opening up the seat. Hill’s updated finance report had not been posted on the state Division of Elections website Monday morning.
Meanwhile in neighboring Senate District 2, Panama City Republican George Gainer reported raising $42,857 in April. Overall, Gainer, a Bay County commissioner, had raised $249,482 and loaned $500,000 to his campaign, while spending $232,492. Gainer is seeking to succeed term-limited Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, and does not currently have opposition. District 2 includes Bay, Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Walton and part of Okaloosa counties. Gainer received $1,000 contributions in April from Simpson Environmental Services and Simpson Farms — two firms headed by Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby.
