The Mobile Press Register reports that C&S Wholesale Grocers of Keene, N.H., the wholesaler that supplies Bruno’s and Food World, is the bidder most likely to seek a large number of stores in the bankruptcy auction scheduled for Wednesday.
The wholesaler is likely to seek as many as 30 more to fold into its Southern Family Markets subsidiary. It is known if the Pensacola area stores will be included in that number.
Bids are due by noon Tuesday at the Birmingham office of Burr Forman, the law firm representing Bruno’s in its Chapter 11 proceeding. Typically, the company will take bids on large blocks of stores first, then smaller blocks or single stores, and then liquidation bids. Wednesday, lawyers and managers will look over the bids, trying to raise the most money for creditors owed more than $40 million. Bidders will be able to raise their offers Wednesday. By day’s end, the company expects to release a tally, which will go before a judge Thursday.
