The county commissioners are working to stop in any cut in the Escambia Community Clinics. However, they should be working to increase what is spent. By proposing a cut, county staff has positioned the clinics as lucky to just get what it received last year.
The Sheriff is even bolder. Ask for $10 million increase and then make the voters feel like he’s accomplished something if he cuts back to last year’s level. Then he can tell deputies he tried to get them a pay raise. McNesby is a better politician than many give him credit.
Budget Boogie has begun. The dance steps will be fun to watch.
