The Mobile Press Register reports that builders there are building more environmentally friendly homes and offices.
Building green is the new buzz word, said Mark Swanson, president of the Home Builders Association of Metro Mobile. Everybody’s jumping on the green wagon.
White-Spunner Construction’s new two-story office building off Interstate 65 and Government Boulevard will reduce the company’s energy consumption by an estimated 21 percent and water use by 30 percent because it uses Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, guidelines, according to Scott Rowe, the company’s project manager.
The Mobile home built last month by ABC television’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has energy-efficient features such as a recyclable carpet and an irrigation system so the family won’t over-water the new landscaping, according to builder Frank Lott III of Heritage Homes.
