The City of Pensacola is excited to announce the substantial completion of the Burgess Road Sidewalk and Drainage Improvement Project, which added new sidewalks along the roadway to better connect the neighborhood and provide enhanced safety for pedestrians.
The project was a partnership between the City of Pensacola and Escambia County, making improvements to Burgess Road for both city and county residents.
“The completion of this project is an exciting step toward continuing to make Pensacola a more pedestrian friendly community, while also improving drainage in the Burgess Road area,” Mayor Grover Robinson said. “I am so grateful for the hard work of our Public Works team and for the partnership with Escambia County on this project. I look forward to seeing our residents enjoy a safer, more connected Burgess Road neighborhood.”
Significant drainage improvements were also completed in the area through the project, with the addition of new gutters, curbs and driveway aprons. Burgess Road was also repaved from Joy Street to Lanier Drive.
New sidewalks were placed along the north side of Burgess Road from Sewell Street to Lanier Drive, as well as on the south side from Joy Street to Mona Lane. The project also implemented current industry-standard traffic calming measures, including lane adjustments and increased signage.
The project also incorporated significant utility upgrades for Emerald Coast Utilities Authority and Pensacola Energy during construction.
The contractor is actively addressing a few outstanding work items on the site, including the planting of a few trees at Parker Circle Park. The project is slated to be fully completed by the end of November 2022.
