Burt loses final appeal

Anti-abortion activist John Burt lost his final appeal this week in the Florida 1st District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee. He was arrested and charged in 2003 with four counts of lewd or lascivious child molestation and one count of lewd/lascivious misconduct. He was sentenced in 2004 to 18 years in prison.

Burt made headlines for his abortion protests outside an abortion clinic on Ninth Avenue during the 1980s and 1990s. He ran a home for unwed mothers, Our Fathers House – a Christian-based boarding school for pregnant teens. His arrest centered around a 15-year-old girl who lived at the home.
