The daily newspaper has a news brief on the sale of Brownsville Middle School being delayed another month. School district staff had to admit to the School Board that George Hawthorne has not paid any money in escrow to secure his deal. Also the board was told that staff had being trying to reach Hawthorne for a couple weeks and he wouldn’t return their calls.
In the PNJ article, Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said that the board’s real estate agent couldn’t reach Hawthorne until yesterday afternoon. The PNJ reporter got him that night and the CEO of Diversity Program Advisors insisted the $1 million deal was going thru and that he was “finalizing a contract with Habitat for Humanity.”
The IN has received no notices of any additional meetings for Hawthorne’s P.A.T.H. initiative which called for the old school to be converted into the Pensacola Family Resource Center. The informational meeting was held at the end of January and a steering committee was to be formed.
Meanwhile Hawthorne was awarded a 90-day contract to run the Equal Business Opportunity program for the Community Maritime Park. He committed to the CMPA board to spend at least 90 percent of his time to that effort.
