Buzz: Lumon May running for District 3

Lumon May is working hard behind the scenes in preparing his announcement for his candidacy for Escambia County Commission, District 3.

The current commissioner, Marie Young, age 76, has announced her intention to retire from public office. Young was first appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush in 2002 to complete the term of Willie Junior.

May has been meeting with constituents and supporters in anticipation of his announcement, which will be in the upcoming weeks. May ran unsuccessfully for House District 3 seat against GOP incumbent Clay Ford in 2008, but did surprisingly well in the race for a newcomer. He is a contractor and co-owns May Construction. May has spent most of adult life coaching youth sports and organizing inner-city youth athletics. He has coached many of the top athletes from this area.
