Press Release: Hayward to Hire New Administrator, Former U.S. Senate Chief of Staff
(July 28, 2011) – Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward today announced the appointment of William H. Reynolds to the position of City Administrator. The position, created by the City Charter approved by voters in 2009, replaces the former City Manager position under the old form of government.
Reynolds comes to Pensacola with a significant background as an attorney and a public administrator, as well as a career in the U.S. Marine Corps. Notably, Reynolds served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Arlen Spector, as well as a senior officer leading civil / military operations in the Al Anbar province of Iraq, which includes the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah.
Most recently, Reynolds held administrative posts in Chippewa County, Wisconsin, and Washtenaw County, Michigan, where he helped bring efficiency and cost-effectiveness to those governmental operations.
Hayward stated that Reynolds would be a key part of his administration and would work closely with City Council to move the City forward.
“Bill has a wealth of knowledge and experience in building and improving organizations, whether it’s helping local tribes in Iraq transition to democracy or working with local governments here in the United States facing budget challenges,†said Hayward. “I think Bill is going to help us move City Hall to a new level of efficiency and help us build a customer-friendly, citizen-first culture. He’s going to be an integral part of working with City Council in making our city a better place to live and work, and I’m excited about him coming on board.â€
Reynolds expressed his excitement at the opportunity and challenge of working in America’s First Settlement, under the new form of government.
“Mayor Hayward has a clear vision of where he wants to take Pensacola, and I’m looking forward to helping him implement that vision,†said Reynolds. “This is an exciting time for Pensacola, with a new form of government, the Maritime Park, and new businesses starting to open. I am hopeful and excited about working with Mayor Hayward and his team to meet the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities ahead.â€
Reynolds starts work on August 1, and will be paid $130,000.
Current Assistant City Administrator and former City Manager Al Coby will remain with the City through September 30 to assist Reynolds in the transition.
