Where did the county get the funds for the new $5 million chamber building/firehouse? From the Local Sales Option Tax, but the original budget for the meeting room and expansion was only $1.5 million in 2007-08. During the 2010 District 2 commission race, candidate George Touart talked about this project and claimed the additional funds for the new building were being pulled from a sewer project for Navy Point area—-which is still largely on septic tanks. Navy Point didn’t vote for Valentino, Perdido Key did.
